What We're Working On
Oversight doesn't begin when something goes wrong.
The Center for AI Oversight is examining how organizations, regulators, and leaders can strengthen accountability as artificial intelligence becomes embedded across organizational systems. Our current work includes:
State AI oversight.
State-level analysis of existing governance authority, regulatory requirements, and oversight gaps across regulated sectors, beginning with seven states.
Regulatory engagement.
Contributing positions to standards and regulatory discussions where public input is invited, including the NIST TACIP community draft and the NAIC AI Risk Evaluation Supplement.
State and regulator dialogue.
Listening to state officials and regulators about where existing structures work, where gaps are emerging, and what would be useful.
Cross-sector convenings.
Bringing regulators, policymakers, practitioners, and organizational leaders together around shared AI oversight questions.
Research and positions.
Positions and reference tools that distinguish oversight governance from management and technical controls and clarify who is accountable for the system as a whole.
Education.
Briefings, workshops, and learning experiences that help leaders turn oversight governance principles into practice.
Our work continues alongside the systems we are seeking to understand and govern.
